Freddy Movie Review, an Uneasy ‘Suspenseful’ Movie
Freddy movie review: Freddy available on Disney+ Hotstar is A psychological thriller movie that is a take on the loneliness and the love story of the character name Freddy who is a Dentist born in a Parsi family. It is a suspenseful movie that revolves around Freddy and his love life which further explores the ‘adventures’ of his life.
Haunted by childhood trauma, Freddy is an Introvert and awkward Dentist based in Mumbai and is kind of a normal person living a comfortable life in his 30s with barely any friends except ‘Hardy’ who is a Tortoise.
The guy neither has any parents nor any love life. He tries to date girls but fails due to his awkwardness and gets socially humiliated and gets played.
Freddy finally gets his love at first sight when at a wedding he sees Kainaz played by (Alaya F) for the first time, he tries to approach her but gets punched hard in the face by the husband of Kainaz.
The movie then takes some dramatic turns and twists which affect the life of Freddy.
Kartik Aryan acted movie that is 2 hours and 3 minutes long movie but has nothing to show apart from Freddy and his actions throughout the movie, promoted as a ‘suspenseful’ story Freddy has nothing to deliver except some twists that to doesn’t surprise the viewer after a time.
The story Building of the movie is good and the way the character has been portrayed is surprising as Kartik has done an appealing job and acted very well for the character.
The pace of the movie is kind of slow and shaky, and the direction is done by Shashanka Ghosh who has directed the movies like Khoobsurat and Veere Di Wedding in the past, this movie’s direction of his doesn’t have a similar direction just like his past movies, but the tone and the storytelling of the movie is kind of dark, characters desperate for their motives with a lesser star cast.
The cinematography of the movie is weak and fails to bind the viewer to the movie. It would not be a fact to say that Freddy is the character who somewhat resonates with the character of Artur Flake from the movie Joker, like the dancing of him at his Farm House, His way of smiling, and many more.
The movie gives us an uneasy feeling too sometimes and makes us uncomfortable, there are certain scenes in the movie which doesn’t really add to the story but have a deep meaning in them like Freddy staring at the girl on his dates which not only makes the girl awkward in the movie but makes you feel awkward too,
The movie is not an emotional rollercoaster for a viewer but is a rollercoaster for Freddy. His Introvert and awkward nature of behaviour deeps down the depth of the character.
It has been a very long time since Bollywood has come up with such a good Crime Thriller movie, and the way the characters have been portrayed has been great throughout the movie, Kartik has probably given the best performance of his career in this movie, and has proven himself to the critics.
He has been great throughout the last year 2022. Kainaz was too played very well by the Kainaz. The only good Positive of the movie are the actors of it, they have been saviours of the movie. Work done by Kartik Aryan in this movie for the character of Freddy has paid off very well.
A cinephile will better remember Kartik Aryan with this performance and character of his instead of his stereotypical roles for Sonu in ‘Sonu Ke Titu Ke Sweety’ and Rajjo in ‘Pyar ka Punchnama’.
Freddy’s movie is disputedly, fairly engaging, it may disappoint you and fails you but one cannot ignore it, one cannot ignore the fact that it is a better psychological thriller than many of the other B-Grade Bollywood movies.
Yes, the Climax of the movie is weak, even the portrayal and the storytelling of the movie are weak and not up to the mark and the director has failed to claim the full potential of the movie with such a Story and acting.
The way the director showcases childhood trauma of Freddy was average but the story makes it special and makes the viewer think about it, even the take of the story on domestic violence impacts the story and the viewer as well.
Freddy movie review: This movie is a good one-time watch to experience the potential of Kartik.
